Universal Specialty Vehicles, Inc. is not only producing eco-friendly vehicles, but the manufacturing company is now going green too! USV worked closely with Polarlite, Inc. to help reduce the energy intake of their 20,000 sq. foot building.

USV’s manufacturing plant is located in the rural area of Perris, California. The production staff was in need of a more luminescent work setting which is why the company turned to Polarlite,Inc. for help. After receiving their energy audit, it was clear USV needed a new lighting solution.

Green Manufacturing of Mobile Vehicles

In doing so, the experts of Polarlite, Inc. mounted twenty three new fluorescent high bay light fixtures in the factory. The light fixtures are going to help USV in providing more energy efficient solutions, by spending less on energy and building operations, by producing less waste, by providing a clearer natural environment and by allowing others to work under a more comfortable and productive physical environment.

Polarlite, Inc. is a Proud Authorized Agent of Express Solutions of Southern California Edison (SCE). The company has been working towards helping businesses maintain more energy efficiency through a variety of eco-friendly lighting fixtures.

Their most popular light, the Fluorescent high bay light fixture offers more advantages instead of other commonly known metal lights. The high bay lighting has an instant strike on and re-strike starting times and have a higher color rendering ability. Customers have the option of choosing from several different color options and the life of these lights last longer. It is said that each light is estimated to save the consumer an average of $55-$94 per year.

These new light fixtures are just another way of how Universal Specialty Vehicles, Inc. cares about preserving the natural environment and being energy conscious.

We at Universal Specialty Vehicles pride ourselves on our ability to consistently deliver customized specialty vehicles to our customers.  From custom designed mobile clinics to state-of-the-art police and fire command centers, USV can and will design and build a mobile specialty vehicle to your customized specifications.

Take the UCSD Eyemobile for Children as an example.  We worked in tandem with the staff at the University of California San Diego's Shiley Eye Center to create a mobile eye mobile that could help them achieve their goal of expanding vision outreach to low-income children in the San Diego metropolitan area.  From the creation of child-height mirror stations--used for glasses fittings with various children--to various other amenities, we at USV worked tirelessly to craft a solution that was appropriate to the very specific needs of our friends at the Shiley Eye Center.

Alternatively, USV worked tirelessly with LifeStream Blood Bank in order to renovate a redesign a set of previously constructed mobile blood banks.  Central electrical systems were replaced, furnishings restored and renovated, and the atmosphere of the entire unite was raised to incredibly modern standards of comfort and ease of use--a substantial benefit in an industry where patient comfort is integral to success.

While that may not sound electrifyingly innovative, it does represent USV's consistent efforts to adapt to the needs of our clients.  LifeStream was in need of renovations and USV possessed the versatility necessary in order to deliver on that need.  The Shiley Eye Center needed a customized solution for their stated vision and USV was all too happy to provide said solution.  We are a company, then, that is rooted in versatility; that ability to adapt to whatever needs our customers may have.  A versatility composed of products, ideas, and solutions.  A versatility that strives to meet and exceed whatever unique challenges and standards our customers present to us.

Universal Specialty Vehicles, Inc. attended the annual COPSWEST conference at the Ontario Convention Center November 16th and 17th. The COPSWEST expo gathers over 300 renowned vendors offering products and services to law enforcement agencies. Aside from the vendors on the main floor, COPSWEST also hosts presentations with guest speakers knowledgeable in several different fields within law enforcement.

For over 17 years Universal Specialty Vehicles has built custom units for several Police and Sherriff Departments in various cities and counties throughout the United States. At our booth, we were able to display photos of previously built units, which allowed for attendees to appreciate the craftsmanship of our work and unique designs catered to each client.

It was a pleasure greeting familiar faces as well as meeting new ones. Our attendance at this conference has been a very positive one in a welcoming atmosphere. After participating for over 15 years, Universal Specialty Vehicles looks forward to being a part of the experience again in 2011.

The San Bernardino Sherriff’s Department was asked to display their new 35’ Command Operations Fifth Wheel trailer. The trailer was open to attendees and many toured the interior. According to John Amrhein, the Emergency Service Coordinator, the comments were all favorable and he enjoyed his experience at COPSWEST.

For Universal Specialty Vehicles, Inc and their diesel chassis customers these are terms they need to be familiar with.

On January 1, 2010 engine manufacturers had to meet the US Environmental Protection Agency’s more stringent diesel emissions standards.  These regulations dramatically decrease discharges of particulate matter (soot and ash) and nitrogen oxide, almost completely eliminating these emissions from on-road diesel engines.  Most engine manufacturers have chosen the Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) system.  The SCR is a system that uses a urea based diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) and a catalytic converter to significantly reduce oxides and nitrogen emissions.  According to Cummins, SCR technology is the leading technology being used to meet 2010 emissions regulations.

SCR is the aftertreatment technology that treats exhaust gas downstream of the engine.  Small quantities of diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) are injected into the exhaust upstream of a catalyst, where it vaporizes and decomposes to form ammonia and carbon dioxide.  The ammonia is the desired product which in conjunction with the SCR catalyst, converts the oxides of nitrogen (NOx) to harmless nitrogen and water.
